Flight Certification

Many fixed wing and rotary aircraft require flight certification (or re-certification) if any major work, repairs or maintenance impacting on the airframe, engines and flight control infrastructure has been carried out. The ability of a system to record an operational 'snapshot' that can be compared with a manufacturer certified baseline snapshot for a standard test flight can save considerable time, resources and effort in the flight certification process. Our suppliers offer advanced tools allowing the technically advanced front-end recorder component to be fully portable and not locked into a single airframe.
 

This portability means that the standard sensors and wired components can be left in the aircraft while the technically advanced head-unit can be moved from aircraft to aircraft. Using this option is a cost effective solution for routine flight certification activities where it is unrealistic to have each airframe carry advanced technology that will see low utilisation. Simply put, the next time flight certification is required you put the front-end recorder in the pre-prepared slot, connect the leads already in place (power, sensors etc.) and you can be ready to begin certification in less than an hour compared taking up to several days to re-install then tune the sensor net, recorders, networks etc . . .

Applications in High Altitude and Space

Our suppliers have contributed to a number of high-altitude and space applications in the USA and Europe including the Delta-II launch program, SpaceX Falcon and Dragon and NASA ARES I rocket tests. This included supplying compact, radiation-tolerant data acquisition units for distributed installation on satellites, replacing the concept of centralised data acquisition directly to the main computer. The remote terminal units (RTUs) are connected to the main computer via an avionics bus, resulting in a saving in wiring weight and complexity.
